Westshore Terminals has been the leading name in coal export facilities in Canada since 1970.
Created from dredging the Strait of Georgia in one of the largest reclamation projects of its kind,
the terminal has been a consistent and major foreign income earner for Canada and British Columbia.
Growth over the 40 years of operation has been planned and patterned around increasing global demand
for high-quality Canadian coal. In recent years, United States coal producers have also seen Westshore
as the choice avenue to world markets.
In its history, Westshore has had three major expansions or upgrades, leading to our current capacity of 29 million tonnes per year. From the earliest years when shipments
reached less than 1.5 million tonnes on board just over 30 ships, today Canada’s premier coal export terminal
handles around 200 ships a year and throughput totals over 20 million tonnes.
