    Keeping the coal on site is the prime focus of Westshore’s environmental management program and the terminal has the resources for the job. A policy of continuous improvement means the terminal is constantly looking for new ways to respect the environment and improve on-site dust suppression and operations.

    The terminal has a fully integrated system to monitor weather conditions and its dust suppression methods including:

    • 38 high mast sprays
    • 81 ground-mounted rainguns
    • Central Tower with sprays
    • Spray hoses on each stacker-reclaimer
    • Collection and recycling of run-off water on site
    • Coal car washdown after unloading
    • Fleet of water trucks
    • Mobile pollution control command centre
    • Off-site dust monitoring stations
