  • Current capacity 26 million tonnes a year.
  • Record year 1997 - Shipped 23.5 milliion tonnes on 264 ships and unloaded 2177 trains.
  • The first 100 million tonnes shipped took 12 years (1982); the 200 mmt mark came six years later (1988), the 300 mmt in 1994 and the 400 mmt milestone in 1999. Shipment level of 500 million tonnes was achieved by February 2004.
  • On average, six unit coal trains up to 125 cars long arrive each day; it takes from 2 to 4 hours to unload a train depending on use of the single or twin rotary dumpers; dedicated coal train sets are on an approximate 80-hour rotation from mine to port to mine.
  • Westshore still holds the world record for a single coal shipment – 239,084 tonnes shipped on board the Hyundai Giant in May 1987.
  • In February, 2004, Westshore shipped its 500 millionth tonne of coal.
  • 2005 marks the terminal's 35th year of operation.
  • Shipments in 2004 totalled 21.2 million tonnnes, with 1,800 unit trains unloaded, and 250 ships loaded.
