Roberts Bank is an ecologically rich area nestled between Tsawwassen, Ladner and Richmond in suburban Greater Vancouver. Its tidal waters are sometimes clouded by silting from the nearby Fraser River, making it fertile for plants such as eel grass. This attracts fish, crabs and abundant birdlife, and several pods of killer whales cruise through the area feeding.

The closest residents are situated across Roberts Bank waters in suburban Tsawwassen, while the Tsawwassen First Nations Reserve is located around the base of the five-kilometre causeway to the terminal. The causeway has aided the stability of the local waters.
